Category: Act of Kindness Notes
Geeez, do something with your life, would’ya?
Yeah, life is a little wonky, even in retirement, but creating is still a great way to pivot out of the confusion and into something productive and helpful.
A few recent projects come to mind…
Sending notes to loveforourelders.org
Creating digital postcards
Linking to inspiration
As part of my AOK Writing project, I’m creating a slide-based tutorial on fashioning your own inspirational message for those needing a little support and, using bit.ly, including the shortened/memorable URL in any handwritten note. There’s also no reason you can’t create a short inspirational video instead of a static message. Hmmm…
[Note: my tutorial includes the step of publishing a Google Slide to the web; there’s no reason you couldn’t just post your message on your blog and ‘bit.ly-ize’ your post. I just chose the other route to make the link more exclusive.]
The steps:
- Create a PDF/PNG/JPEG poster of support or inspiration. I used Canva.
- Place it on a blog page.
- Create a bit.ly link to it and include the link in your handwritten letter/note.
Here is a 90-second video showing my steps that included Canva, Google Slides [optional], and bit.ly.

Keep trying new stuff!
Further participation in loveforourelders.org
This is another note written as a participant in the Love for Our Elders site.

Short version: I call it a course, but it’s more my curation of the different projects out there and facilitation of a group of interested writers. I provide short video tours, tips, templates, suggestions [for those interested] for more creative alternatives to letters and notes.
Another AOK note
It’s been fun to see what inspiration emerges for each note to an elder.
[Considering I technically am one, perhaps it’s easier to see life through their eyes.]

Visiting loveforourelders.org
A prime destination for the AOK Writing Project is loveforourelders.org.
The site also encourages us to send video letters.
[I’ll need a serious facial overhaul before that happens…then again, I guess I could use a cutout of some celebrity guy…]
Another AOK note
This project speaks to me as a retiree looking to replace some of the volunteer hours I was contributing before the pandemic. And I’m looking forward to hearing from/collaborating with like-minded writers/creators.

Act of Kindness writing is more than letters.
Another form of AOK [Act of Kindness] writing.
I used WordArt.com to create this word cloud.
This would be as simple as making the word cloud, printing it out, and sending it to a designated recipient.
Let me know in the form below if you’d like to join me in:
- sending notes to those who could use a little friendship and support during trying times
- crafting other forms that stretch your creativity while reaching out to others
- accessing a few resources that can help you when you get stuck
I’ll be in touch, fellow creative retirees. [Still looking for another term…]

The AOK writing project continues…
I’m finding it easier to freeform with these notes to folks reached via Love For Our Elders.
It’s also been fun to add page-a-day calendar items to each note. Quotes and pics of dogs have been taking precedence lately,
